Welcome to Grade 4
Ms. Vidergar

Classroom rules:

Peaceful class, stay on task
Respect others
Listen to the teacher
Follow directions
Do not steal

Consequences:

  • Purple - Outstanding
  • Green - good job! This is where everyone begins the day.
  • Yellow - Warning
  • Orange - 1st time out - Do a think sheet and will have lunch detention.
  • Blue - 2nd time out. Do a think sheet and 60 minutes detention on Wednesday. Phone call to the parent.
  • Red - conference with the principal, parents and teacher

During the day the student has the opportunity to change their behavior and clip back up to green or even purple. Students will keep a behavior calendar . These need to be signed at the end of each week and brought back each Monday. Students who do not get forms signed and brought back the next day will have recess detention.

Rewards:

Credit cards will be kept by the students and credits can be earned for having all homework complete for the week, participating in class, good behavior etc… these credits can be saved and after 30 have been earned they can purchase something from the treasure chest. Credits may be used for such things as computer time if all work is already finished. They can also save them for the end of the quarter auctions that the class will have.

Credits will be lost for such things as not on task during the day, moving the clip to orange or blue, needing to use the restroom during class, getting a drink, not having a pencil or pen or ready for class.

Homework:

Homework is listed on the front board and each student is given time to write down the assignment. One hour a day is given for homework. Part of the homework assignment is to read for 20 minutes.

Excused homework - If your child does not finish his/her homework and has a very good reason, send a short note with them for that day. They can finish their homework at recess or that night. There is no detention with an excused note. This should rarely happen and only for a valid reason.

Incomplete homework - (forgotten, missing, late) the homework contract will be sent home with the student. This must be signed by the parent and returned the next day. The student will miss recess for not having their homework. The 4th time of not having their homework the student will have lunch detention. The 5th time the student will have 60 minutes detention after school. The 6th time there will be a conference with the administration/ teacher and the parents.

Each quarter is a new beginning and the student has the opportunity to begin again.

Parent - Teacher communication:

Please come to see me before or after school if there is a problem or concern. You may also phone the office and I will return your call and/or we can set up an appointment where we can discuss the issue. I am more than happy to speak with you about any problem or concern you may have.

Illness:

If your child is ill please request homework early in the day so it can be prepared to be picked up at the end of the day. Homework will be due 1 day after they return to class.
